Below are some commonly asked questions.

Are you a Notary Public?

As Commissioner for Oaths we can sign all documents for use in within Ireland and also many documents that are being sent abroad. A Notary Public in contrast is a person who specialises in foreign documents only. A Notary's fee is higher than a Commissioners. Accordingly, please do contact us first to see if we can sign your documents. If we cannot sign your document we can refer you to a Notary.

Can affidavits or statutory declaration be signed by a Garda?

As the law stands a member of the police force cannot sign such documents for the general public. A Commissioner for Oaths is responsible for signing such documents.

Can you witness a signature of a person who is not present

Unfortunately no, for a signature to be witnessed any persons requiring it a witness must be physically present, and must sign in the presence of the Commissioner for Oaths.

Do you provide advice/consultation on legal matters?

While we can assist you with the completion of legal forms and documents we do not specialise in  legal advice. We can however refer you to our partner legal firms.

When am I likely to need the services of a notary public?

You are most likely to require a notary where you have to send papers or documents to a foreign jurisdiction. You may require the services of a notary in relation to:

  • Foreign adoption papers
  • Affidavits for use in foreign courts
  • Copies of State documents for use abroad
  • International contracts
  • Powers of Attorney

Where are you based?

We have offices at Gorey Business Park and are also happy to meet clients at their preferred destination. Please note appointments must be made in advance.

Will you travel to sign documents or must I visit your offices?

What to bring...

If you are looking to get a document signed you must bring the following items along with you. Note also that if your document is an Affidavit / Statutory Declaration then we must see you signing in person so you must be present, as opposed to sending in a friend, colleague or third party.

  • Your Passport or EU Photo ID

Affidavits / Statutory Declarations / Having signature witnessed

  • Your Documents

Please bring the entire document, not just signatute page. Your Affidavit / Statutory Declaration might refer to Exhibit(s), and if so they must also be signed at the same time.

"I found Paul to be very professional and his fees very reasonable on both occasions we made use of his services. We didn't know how to proceed with all the documents and before we met him the first time he explained what they were about and how to proceed. We then visited him in Gorey and he got it sorted out very quickly for us. We highly recommend Paul and his service''
